Value stream mapping
Find bottle necks
Take the emotion out of problem solving!
Quick reference guide
Value stream mapping is a visual tool used to analyze, understand, and improve processes by identifying inefficiencies and areas of improvement.
Value stream mapping is a technique that provides a holistic view of a process, capturing all steps and activities involved in delivering a product or service. It helps identify waste, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
Select a Process: Choose a specific process you want to analyze and improve. It could be a manufacturing process, service delivery, or any workflow.
Map the Current State:
Create a visual representation of the current process from start to finish.
Include process steps, decision points, delays, and inventory.
Use symbols to indicate different activities, transport, inventory, and information flow.
Identify Value-Adding Steps: Differentiate between value-adding and non-value-adding (waste) steps. Focus on what directly contributes to meeting customer needs.
Identify Bottlenecks: Identify points in the process where work accumulates or slows down, causing delays and inefficiencies.
Map the Future State:
Design an improved version of the process that eliminates or reduces waste.
Consider streamlining, automation, and better flow.
List potential improvements and changes for each step.
Prioritize based on impact and feasibility.
Implement Changes: Implement the improvements identified in the future state map. Continuously monitor the process for changes and improvements.
